Life's Essence- Clinic of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese medicine is an alternative system of treatment arising from a holistic philosophy of life. It emphasizes the interconnection of the mental, emotional and physical components of each unique human being. Traditional Chinese medicine is a comprehensive system for the assessment and treatment of acute and chronic disorders, as well as preventative health care and maintenance.

Acupuncture

Chinese medicine has been utilized as effective treatment for over 3000 years. The basic foundation of acupuncture is brought about by its function of stimulating the flow of Qi, blood and body fluids. Qi (pronounced “chee”) can be defined as the “force” or “vital substance” that animates and control the observable functions of living beings. This vital substance flows through the body on channels known as “meridians” that connect all of our major organs. According to Chinese medicine theory , any illness arises when the cyclical flow of Qi, blood and body fluids become unbalanced or blocked, leading to pain, swelling, a build up of toxins and other symptoms. Acupuncture improves circulation, reestablishing the proper function of the body and recovers damaged tissues. Acupuncture works holistically, treating both body and mind. It leaves people with a deep sense of physical and mental relaxation, revitalization and well-being.

The basis of acupuncture is expressed in this famous Chinese saying: “bu tong ze tong, tong ze bu tong” which means “free flow: no pain, no free flow: pain.

Tuina Massage

Tuina (pronounces ‘twee-nah’) massage is a recognized form of medical treatment for a wide range of health problems. It has been used for over 3000 years and is especially good for musculoskeletal problems. Tuina works on the energy channels and points, using the same principles as acupuncture. By using a wide variety of techniques- soft or hard, superficial or deep, the practitioner can balance the Qi energy, the vital substances and the internal organs on which the health of the person’s body and mind depends. An important effect of Tuina is to bring a person’s awareness back to his own body. Ultimately this allows the body to naturally heal itself.
